
According to GoErie.com, GE Transportation will end all locomotive production in Erie by the end of 2018, transferring all work to Fort Worth, Texas and resulting in the loss of 575 hourly jobs. There was no mention of how many salaried employees would be affected.
This move has long been rumored and widely anticipated by many Erie GE employees and residents of the area. More than ever, Erie County needs to get serious about attracting new business and creating incentives for new business startups. We need more manufacturing, especially, manufacturing on a smaller scale.
So what do we do now? Here are a few ideas:
